It’s the kind of place I won’t ever have to leave. I will have a good retirement. I will have time for my family and see my kids grow up. After a short while, I will never have to bum jump-seats and commute to work again, burning many days a month away from home in doing so.
Major airline. Major relief. Now ahead? Major study or systems and procedure.

But is it really a good job if you’re not flying the Mad Dog?

Congratulations!
Man, I just signed the papers on my new job yesterday. Feeling the same kind of relief. Huge reduction in day-to-day stress, close to home, lots of room to grow, and something I hope could be my last job.

I grew up with a commercial pilot as a father and a stewardess as a mother... As far as time for your family goes.... Meh.

All depends on the company and how utilized the people are. Work family divide is on harmonious balance here.

My parents worked during the “golden age” of those jobs and while pay was GREAT (and I mean GREAT), long stand bys on the other side of the world would reduce family life quite a bit, even if they were to only fly 40-60 hours per month.

my schedule, once holding a line, will be 3-on, 4-off and one side of those 3-on either gets me home by dinner or lets me leave the house at noon on the front. So, the schedule works nice and Idon’t care about international captain to japan or anything, cause I don’t want my kids to see me home on day 1 after all jet lagged out and grumpy on no sleep for 30 hours.
I commend you handling that sort of life and coming out the other side knowing the ups and downs. Not the best way to grow up but also a good thing to know about moving forward.

That doesn’t sound bad indeed... And yeah, as soon as things start to get long distance, it gets very different. My father is impressive in how he deals with jetlag though... He gets by taking micro naps of a few minutes here and there, when he can, staying fresh all the time. No idea how he does it. He retired a few years ago though... My mother didn’t have to deal with jetlag as much, retired also.
